The Ultimate Virus Shawl

The Ultimate Virus Shawl

I was recently commissioned by a friend to make her a shawl to wear to a wedding.

The Virus shawl is such a versatile pattern and looks different depending on the wool or yarn used. On this occasion I used the King Cole Cherished in Champagne.

The Virus shawl pattern I used was a free online pattern by Connie @ https://thatoldschoolgirlagain.files.wordpress.com/2016/07/virus-shawl-written-crochet-pattern-1.pdf

To make it the “Ultimate Shawl” for this special occasion I decided to add an edging, forming a collar and then adding bling by adding hot fix Crystals in a pretty peach colour to the edge of the finished shawls edging.

The Virus shawl edging just adds that little bit extra to make this a very special piece of crochet I think.  And my friend is over the moon with her unique item of clothing to wear to her sons wedding.

The Pattern For The Edging

I will write up the pattern / instructions for the edging of this virus shaw as soon as I have time. I am currently working on a Crochet Lounge original pattern for some baby shoes, which will be available in the next couple of weeks, so watch out for that on the blog too.

    1. Hi,
No the edging is not part of the original pattern, here’s a rough guide to how I did it, as it was quite a few years ago!
I worked a couple of rows of the pattern out from and along the flat straight edge using the chain spaces, and slip stitching into the row ends to jump the pattern to the next chain space (if that makes sense) on the last row of dc’s I made a picots on each stitch. If you make your picots the following way they will always be round and consistent in their appearance.
work the double crochet, ch2, yarn over, insert your hook back through the 2 loops at the base of the ch2,
Yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook.
The stones are hot fix crystals.

      I hope this helps
      Corinne
